Hi, I'm Jessica Yakos. I'm a Missoula native, mom of four, and photographer. I studied art at the University of Montana and have a bachelors of art degree in art education. I've actively pursued photography since I was in high school and have been shooting professionally for ten years. Each event and person I have ever photographed has been a great pleasure. I love meeting new people and capturing their special moment in time so they can reminisce about it in the days to come. One of my favorite things in life is hearing about how much someone loves the photos I've taken for them, it is such a blessing.
When you hire me you can be assured that you will have my full and devoted attention. I treat everyone of my photo shoots as a special occasion. I do a limited number of jobs each year so I can give my clients the care and attention they deserve.
I started shooting photos when it was still processed on filmed & printed in a dark room. My foundation of photography is based on 35 milometer where editing options were pretty slim. You either got the shot or you didn't. I strive to continue to photograph this way- getting the shot right the first time. My goal is to capture those perfect moments in time without doing a ton of editing. I touch up all my photos, but don't alter them greatly unless you request it. I love to shoot in black and white & color. So when you work with me you will get a variety of prints in both options.
One of my motivations in starting to photograph professionally was cost. I keep hearing about people not getting wedding and family photos because they were too expensive. It broke my heart that people were not going to get good photos of landmarks in their life just because of money. So I started photographing to help those people out. One of the main cost in getting professional photos is the reprints. That is why the only reprints I charge you for are the 4 by 6 proofs. Other than that I give you digital copies of all your photos to reprint at a location of your choosing and in the sizes you need. I just want people to have good photos no matter how much their paycheck is each month. My initial sitting fee may be a little higher, but trust me, you will make it up with the amount you save getting reprints on your own. With me you will get quality photos without having to break the bank.
One reason I am able to keep my cost low is because I do not have a studio. All my pictures are taken on location. Living in Montana I have never struggled to find a good setting for the perfect photo. We can discuss what you would like your photos to look like and pick a perfect location for you.
I hope we get to meet soon and I can help you turn those special moments of your life into the lasting memories of photographs for you to pass down to generations. A photograph leaves a legacy, let me help you build your legacy.
